Joe Davison is a Florida-born filmmaker, author, actor, and creative force behind Red Gears Studios, known for blending bold genre storytelling with a signature mix of heart, humor, and pure cinematic style. With more than two decades in the industry, Joe has carved out a reputation as one of the most relentlessly imaginative independent creators working today—launching films, book series, comics, and entire entertainment universes from the ground up.

He has written, directed, or produced numerous projects, including the cult-favorite horror-comedy Sorority of the Damned, the upcoming creature spectacle Terror Teddies, As Night Falls, and the neon-splashed reboot series Up All Night with the iconic Rhonda Shear. Joe’s work is marked by hands-on practical effects craftsmanship, razor-sharp comedic timing, and a deep love of throwback genre cinema—from 1950s noir to 1980s monster movies.

As an author, Joe created the expanding Mike Strong: For Hire universe, a gritty supernatural detective series praised for its pulpy tone, immersive world-building, and cinematic action. His novels, including Journey into Hell, One Foot in the Grave, and Queen of Ink and Ashes, have grown into a multi-volume saga with comics, merchandise, and screen adaptations in development.

Joe’s storytelling also reaches the child inside us all through his Young Adult Reader Series, Team Adventure Club, following Carry, Leanne, and Robbie as they battle aliens in Cold Front and soar the skies aboard a 500-year-old flying pirate ship in Captain Cutthroat’s Revenge.

Acting & Performance

In addition to his work behind the camera, Joe is also an accomplished on-screen and stage performer. He is a co-star in the global phenomenon Netflix’s Stranger Things and in numerous national and regional commercial campaigns, including spots for the Florida Lottery, Ugly Grouper, and Pocket Hose, among others.

Joe’s roots as a performer run deep in live theater, where he has been actively performing improv comedy since the year 2000. He has honed his comedic instincts with celebrated improv troupes such as Beat the Dead Horse, The Charming Hooligans, and The Caffeine Kids, developing the quick timing, character work, and collaborative energy that now define his work as a director and writer.
